Renderings Revealed

It has been nearly 2yrs since the developers revealed their plans of a $550M renovation to 550 Madison Ave. Built in 1984 to the designs of Philip Johnson and John Burgee, the 647-foot building was the world’s first postmodern skyscraper. As of now, we have the renderings of the lobby that show a 110-foot arched entryway (I'm borderline obsessed with arched architecture), vaulted ceilings and a window overlooking the proposed new public garden in the rear arcade. The architecture by Snøhetta is just dramatic, love it. The building was known as the AT&T Building as it served as the company's headquarters. "The soaring height of the lobby, which was created intentionally to fit AT&T’s 20,000-pound bronze statue “Spirit of Communication,” continues to be emphasized." After AT&T, Sony moved in and it was then called The Sony Building. When 550 Madison reopens in 2020, it will function as a multi-tenant building for the first time.
